Our Executive Director, Jennifer Anspach

Jennifer Anspach joins the Wild and Scenic Institute with a love of adventure, the outdoors, and a strong background in experiential education. She has coordinated and facilitated educational, adventure programming with local youth for over 13 years. She was a leader in YouthCare’s adventure therapy program for homeless youth, TREC, for eight years where she even collaborated with WSI as a Trip Leader. Who knew she would return to become the new Executive Director?

Jennifer grew up in Portland, Maine, received her B.A. from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachussetts, and then drove to the Great Northwest. She was introduced to Experiential Education as a camp counselor in her teens at Mr. & Mrs. Fish Camp and went on to make a career of it.

Jennifer is a certified Challenge Course Facilitator, Climbing Assistant, and Facilitator Trainer through 4-H, WSU Challenge Program. She is an Outward Bound Alumni (Hurricane Island). She has worked with Parks and Recreation, Highline and Seattle School Districts, Challenges NW, and King County to provide innovative leadership development, work training, and environmental learning opportunites to youth.

Jennifer believes in the global community and is committed to bridging cultural barriers between immigrant and refugee families and the outdoors. She holds a Certificate in TESOL from Seattle University, and has taught English as a Foreign Language locally and abroad. Jennifer has lived and traveled in Korea, Central America, Mexico and Europe. She developed an ESL Adventures Program at a local Language Academy.

Jennifer demonstrates a sincere support of WSI’s mission, and the desire to instill a passion for the outdoors in today’s young people so they may continue to enjoy, learn from, and preserve the enviroment for future generations.
